Committees

With the guiding principles of inclusion, adaptability, diversity, collaboration, self-determination and universal design in mind, the Accessibility Advisory Committee acts as an ongoing advisory board of Council, fulfilling the goals of BC's Accessibility Act. A key role of the committee was to draft an Accessibility Action Plan, which was adopted by Council on November 26, 2024.

The Plan's aim is to outline strategies and actions to improve accessibility and inclusivity in Peachland. It focuses on ensuring that individuals with disabilities have equal access to facilities, services and opportunities within the community. By promoting accessibility, Peachland can become a more inclusive and welcoming place for everyone.

Terms of Reference

The purpose of the Audit Committee is to receive and review the annual financial statement audit of the District of Peachland with the District’s external auditors before it is approved by Council and to reinforce the principle that the Administrative function of the District is accountable to the legislative arm. The Audit Committee is a Standing Committee of Council.

The composition of the Committee includes:

• Three members of Council, including the Mayor as Chair;
• Chief Administrative Officer;
• Director of Finance; and
• Director of Corporate Services, or designate.

Terms of Reference

During its November 14, 2023 meeting, Council formally established the Downtown Revitalization Task Force to help guide the development of the Peachland Downtown Revitalization Implementation Strategy (DRIS). Commencing in February 2024, this Task Force is designed to function as a short-term advisory group whose primary role is to offer guidance to both Council and staff in the formulation of the DRIS. The DRIS is anticipated to outline the vision, goals and objectives for downtown Peachland, emphasizing aspects such as downtown form and character, land use and the regulatory framework essential for guiding growth and development. Completion of the DRIS is targeted for September 30, 2024.

Terms of Reference

The Peachland Climate Action Task Force assists Council in being environmental stewards and improving community resilience by preparing for climate change. The Task Force provides advice to Council on the development of a Climate Sustainability and Resiliency Action Plan that addresses existing and emerging environmental sustainability and climate change issues and trends. The plan is to be completed by June 30, 2025.
