The District of Peachland is a vibrant and growing community of approximately 6,400 residents, located on the shores of the Okanagan Lake in the scenic Okanagan Valley in British Columbia.

We are seeking one (1) Accountant to assist in managing the District of Peachland’s finances showcasing their superior leadership, pro-active communication, and strong technical and analytical skills. Reporting to the Manager of Finance, the ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the financial and accounting records of the municipality are accurately prepared and maintained in accordance with District policies, procedures and bylaws.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING COMPETENCIES:

Financial Reporting & Systems Management: Expertise in implementing, analyzing, and improving financial reporting and accounting systems to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.
Utility Billing Support: Proficient in supporting utility billing processes, including quarterly billing, reconciliations, meter reading edit lists, account maintenance, service application processing, and related tasks.
Account Reconciliation & Monitoring: Skilled in reconciling and monitoring accounts interfaced with external software, ensuring integrity and accuracy in financial data.
Bank Transactions & Reconciliations: Ability to manage and complete bank transactions/entries, as well as perform thorough reconciliations to maintain accurate financial records.
Year-End Preparation & Audit Support: Knowledge of preparing year-end working papers, compiling data, and assisting external auditors with required documentation and reports.
Government Reporting & Compliance: Experience in preparing and submitting financial reports to government agencies, such as the Ministry of Local Government and Statistics Canada, in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Stakeholder Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with internal and external contacts, providing clear information and routine assistance as needed.
Property Tax Process Assistance: Ability to assist in the preparation and processing of the Annual Property Tax, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
Comprehensive Accounting Support: Experience in supporting a range of accounting functions including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Cash Receipting, and Project Support.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience:

  • CA (Chartered Accountant) Designation preferably with Public Practice experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible accounting experience with a minimum of two (2) years at the Accountant level of experience or higher
  • Experience working and supporting financial software systems, internal controls, preparing complex financial statements and finance modelling, budgeting. Municipal accounting and auditing would be an asset.
  • Vadim or related municipal software knowledge.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.

This is a CUPE Local 608 position with a comprehensive benefits package and a rate of $41.46 per hour.
